Kenan Thompson is one of the most recognizable characters in the history of SNL. Before the long-tenured cast member kicked off that phase of his life, he could be seen in some other films.

Hockey fans will remember him in the Mighty Ducks franchise as street hockey turned ice hockey player Russ Tyler. If your memory is a little foggy on who is who from the franchise, just remember him as the guy that tortures goalies with his infamous “Knucklepuck”.

Now an established comedic actor, it seemed to make sense for the NHL Awards to capitalize on his Knucklepuck notoriety and make him the host for Wednesday evening’s event. That’s just what they did.

Ahead of the event, Thompson joined Brent Wallace and gave a very unorthodox interview on his struggles with hosting duties.

We’re sure many laughs are ahead with a man like Thompson at the helm. Let’s just hope that they come as a result of the planned jokes and skits, rather than the mispronunciation of Andrei Vasilevskiy.
