Shaquille O’Neal is one of the greatest big men to ever play basketball. He was a threat on both sides of the floor for so many years and he was never a joy to defend for his opponents. On Tuesday, the Lakers announced their plans for the new 1,200-pound Shaq statue that will be stationed outside the Staples Center as of March 24, 2017.

Shaq helped lead the Lakers to three NBA titles during his time with the team, so the organization is honouring him with his very own 1,200-pound, nine-foot (almost an exact replica) bronze statue that fans from all over will be able to admire outside the arena.

Shaq’s statue will become the seventh statue outside the Staples Center, joining the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Chick Hearn, Magic Johnson, Oscar De La Hoya and Jerry West.
