Trades in hockey, and any sport for that matter, provide exciting opportunities for players by giving them new opportunities to win and fresh starts somewhere new. They also provide fans with new players to get behind and oftentimes, renewed hope in their respective teams.

While all of this is very exciting, trades also almost always create a little bit of sadness, and a whole lot of heartbreaking goodbyes to cities, fans, and teammates .

Gabe Landeskog and Tyson Barrie have both spent the entirety of their NHL careers with the Colorado Avalanche, the bulk of those years also spent as teammates. Now, with Barrie headed to Toronto in a trade that sent Nazem Kadri to the Avalanche, the duo will be split up. Today, Landeskog took to Twitter to share a touching goodbye message to his longtime friend and teammate, and for a guy who only joined Instagram two weeks ago, he did a great job.

This definitely isn’t an easy goodbye, but we have high hopes that this trade will work out swimmingly for both parties, despite how tough the move may feel right now.
