Yesterday, goaltender Roberto Luongo announced his retirement from the NHL with a hilarious tweet and a heartfelt letter.

While Lou officially retired a Panther, and will spend the rest of his days with all happy retirees on the beach in Florida, he spent a large sum of his career with the Vancouver Canucks, and didn’t want to leave the game without acknowledging the fans and the city that saw some of the best hockey of his career.

Luongo took out an ad in the Vancouver paper to thank fans for his time on the West Coast, and his message was just as classy and genuine.

While Lou is thanking fans, the whole hockey world came together to congratulate him on an amazing run in the NHL.

A fantastic gesture from a fantastic character, who we hope picks up the frequency of his hilarious tweets with his spare time in retirement.
