After five and a half seasons pitching with the Blue Jays, Marcus Stroman is on his way out. Trade rumours had been percolating throughout the season, and Stroman will have his homecoming in New York after being traded to the Mets.

A Long Island native, Stroman is likely thrilled at the chance to play so close to home, but at the same time, Toronto has been his home for the past few years and this isn’t going to be an easy split.

Not long after the trade, Stroman took to Twitter with a quick message expressing his love for the city... “forever!”

Stroman's got love for the city 🙏

It wasn’t just that he pitched for the Jays and lived in Toronto. Stroman resonated with the city in a deeper, more impactful way, and his loyalty to Toronto was never in question. From the Raptors’ playoff run to an actual tattoo of the city’s skyline, he may as well have been a Torontonian too.

And of course, this wasn’t lost on any Jays fans, who took to Twitter with thanks en masse for the Jays pitcher.

UPDATE: Stroman shared another tweet thanking Jays fans, while also looking ahead to joining the Mets.
