The Los Angeles Angels played with heavy hearts on Friday night, as it marked the first home game for the team since the passing of pitcher Tyler Skaggs. Each Angel donned Skaggs’ 45 for the contest and with extra incentive to win, the team went on to have its performance of the season.

In remarkable fashion, Los Angeles managed to combine for a no-hitter, totaling 13 runs in a dominant win over the Mariners. All-Star Mike Trout stepped up to the plate big time for the Angels, smacking a homer on the first pitch he saw and finishing the evening 3-4 with 6 RBI. A day after the win, Trout took to Twitter and shared a special message in honour of his friend.

Trout also took time to discuss the win in a post-game interview with the MLB Network. The 27-year-old was emotionally distraught and had a tough time keeping it together as he discussed what the game meant for the organization.

If the no-hitter coming in the Angels’ first home game wasn’t enough, then this stat really puts the whole performance over the top. As SportsCenter noted, the combined no-hitter was the first in the state of California since July 13, 1991.

The day Tyler was born.

Surreal.
