The New York Islanders and the Pittsburgh Penguins haven’t exactly been the friendliest of opponents over the years, but Tuesday night they’re showing that some things are bigger than hockey.

Ahead of Tuesday night’s puck drop, the Islanders revealed a ‘Stronger Than Hate’ decal they’ll be wearing on the back of their helmets in honour of the victims of the mass shooting that took place at a synagogue in Pittsburgh this past weekend.

Earlier in the day, the Penguins also revealed a ‘Stronger Than Hate’ patch they’ll be wearing on their jerseys on Tuesday night.

Before Tuesday's puck drop, the Penguins honoured the 11 victims with 11 seconds of silence.

The Steelers and the Pirates have also offered their own tributes to the victims, and you can also support the victims by donating online at treeoflife.givesmart.com
