The Philadelphia Phillies beat the St Louis Cardinals Monday night, but not every Philly player had a good night. In particular, outfielder Nick Williams probably could have gone with not showing up to the ballpark at all instead of what he got – a bloody face.

The culprit was a rogue baseball that took a strange deflection off the wall. Williams was chasing down a Matt Carpenter drive when it deflected off the wall in a peculiar way, shooting back at the unsuspecting fielder.

The deflection left Williams bloodied up, and he would have to leave the game as a result. While baseball is not a contact sport, it doesn’t mean you’re totally safe from injury.
