Earlier this week the Vancouver Whitecaps FC ran into a bit of a problem as they were down to their third-string goalkeeper Thomas Hasal at the MLS is Back Tournament.
Since they didn’t have any other goalkeepers on their roster, they jokingly reached out to Roberto Luongo on Twitter wondering if he’d be up for joining them as an emergency backup goalie.
Since they didn’t get a response from the former NHL goalie, the Whitecaps moved forward and acquired goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois on a one-day loan from the Montreal Impact. After announcing the deal, Luongo responded with a fantastic photo.
The Whitecaps got back to Luongo pretty quickly and responded with one of his most famous lines from his career.
Obviously he wasn’t going to end up on the Whitecaps’ roster or sideline, but it would have been quite the show just to watch him take warm-ups.
