With Patrick Marleau about to pass Gordie Howe for most games played in the NHL, we decided we would take a look back at his last few years playing hockey and some great photos and moments of him!

This photo of him strapping in at age 50 makes me feel old and I haven’t even cracked 25 yet.

When Howe turned 50 he was given an elaborate hockey cake when playing for the New England Whalers of the WHA with a not so great depiction of him however, it’s the thought that counts.

Gordie Howe also made history (surprise surprise) when him and his sons Mark and Marty skated on the same line for the Whalers in 1980. Which was also the year he played his last game in Detroit. Imagine playing a pro hockey game with two of your kids...ON THE SAME LINE!

He also became the first and only player to take part in an NHL game in 5 different decades. Reading that out loud is insanity.

This man was so good that he made 23 all-star games his first one in 1948 and the last one being in his last season in 1980.

Seeing the future with the past is also a beautiful sigh and this photo of Howe and Gretzky playing in the WHA all-star game is so wholesome.

There is a reason they call him Mr.Hockey
