There are so many perks that come with being a professional hockey player. Money, popularity, a healthy lifestyle, it’s all dandy for the most part. But one of the few cons is the inevitability of enduring a few injuries, and Anaheim Ducks defenceman Cam Fowler got it basically as bad as it gets this past week.

On Monday night, the American was forced to leave the Ducks’ game after a deflected shot from Nashville Predators forward Craig Smith struck him directly in the face. A bloodied Fowler was clearly in pain and details of his injuries were released shortly after.

And let us tell you, they ain’t pretty...

Talk about an unlucky bounce!

Speaking of luck, St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko had some much better fortune after taking a puck to the jibs last night against the Chicago Blackhawks. The guy lost a few chiclets and his smile will never be the same, but he was able to return with a bloodied mouth. It’s weird saying he got off easy with this one, but another look at Fowler’s injury can only draw that conclusion.

Visors or not, the wrong bounce can simply sideline anyone in hockey. Maybe it’s time to just bring back the fishbowl already?
