Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin’s rivalry always seems to find a way to make headlines. Even when they’re not even playing against each other (and in tonight’s case WITH each other).

The two were expected to gear up together for the Metropolitan Division in the 2019 NHL All-Star game but Ovi backed out just days before for rest. That left Sid on his own to lead his teammates in the tourney but oddly enough, he had a memorable moment involving his Russian foe. Penguins beat writer Jason Mackey reported that Crosby tossed a puck over the glass to a fan… who was wearing an Ovechkin Capitals jersey.

Yikes!

Let’s break this down for a second. Was ‘The Kid’ simply trying to be a nice guy? Was he trying to show some love to a Metropolitan fan? Or was the whole thing just an accident? Or was he trying to prove that he and Ovi are in fact buddies?!?! Ah, the possibilities are endless. What we do know is that their last encounter wasn’t so sweet. After Capitals forward Tom Wilson dropped Penguins D-man Alex Oleksiak, Sid and Ovi engaged in a shouting match which resulted in the latter asking for a fight.

Whoa!

At the end of the day, things get heated and the two likely have tremendous respect for one another. We’re just surprised to see the Penguins captain picked this particular fan of all the ones in the building.
