William Nylander only played 54 games this past season as he and the Toronto Maple Leafs spent the first quarter of the year working on a new contract. With all the time spent away from his teammates the 23-year-old didn’t get much time to get back into game mode and registered just seven goals and 27 points.

Nylander followed up his performance in the regular season with just one goal and three points in the seven game series between the Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins, but it appears like the Nylander Leafs fans witnessed the past two seasons has returned at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia.

On Monday, Sweden crushed Norway, 9-1, and Nylander played a huge role in the victory.

The 23-year-old scored a goal and set up four others on the night to finish with five points and was awarded the Player of the Game.

Not a bad start for the Maple Leafs winger.
