A few weeks back, Jay Inslee, the Governor of Washington may’ve spilled the beans on what the new Seattle NHL franchise’s team name might be.
In an interview with Q13FOX based out of Seattle, Inslee dropped this quote regarding a potential Pacific Northwest rivalry with the Vancouver Canucks, who are located approximately 229 kilometres to the north of the Emerald City.
"We cannot wait to get on a high-speed rail line to come up and have the greatest hockey rivalry in North American which is the Seattle Totems versus the Vancouver Canucks.”
That tidbit of information prompted graphic artists and concept designers to get to work and start illustrating a logo and jersey template for the Totems, who once played in the Western Hockey League from 1944-1974.
Christian Legault is a supremely talent graphic designer we’ve featured before. You may remember his designs he did on a potential Seattle “Kraken” team name. Leagult got wind of the possible new name for Seattle’s third professional major North American sports franchise, and once again, Christian put together an impressive home and away jersey as well as a primary and alternate logo.
The colour green is prominently featured, which would blend in with the Seahawks, Mariners and even the Seattle Sounders colours, although it’s missing the distinctive blue. The logo is sharp, and even though the colours look a little too close to the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars' scheme, there’s definitely something that could be made of this template.
So, should The Oak View Group – lead by former Maple Leafs CEO, as well as billionaire David Bonderman and filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer – use Christian’s design as a potential starting point, or should the group consider going with one of the other 11 names listed on the application to the NHL?
Personally, we’re big fans of the Kraken. Here’s a refresher of all of the team names.
