After getting swept by CSKA Moscow in the 2018-19 Gagarin Cup, Avangard Omsk got the ultimate revenge last season by defeating CSKA Moscow in six games and capturing their first ever Gagarin Cup in franchise history.

The 2020-21 KHL season got underway this week and the reigning champions got to watch their first-ever championship banner go up to the rafters before their season opener.

The defending champions picked up where they left off, as they opened the season with a 4-0 victory over CSKA Moscow.
