Bianca Andreescu hasn’t just emerged onto the Canadian tennis scene, she’s emerged on the world stage.

A name that you likely didn’t know one year ago, Andreescu has bulldozed her way up to 15th-ranked women’s singles tennis player in the world (and even higher after this). While her two WTA titles are certainly highlights of her breakout year, she has a chance at something much bigger now – a major.

Andreescu has powered her way to the U.S. Open semi-final, where a match with Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic looms. The run is made historic based on the fact that Andreescu has never even competed in the tournament before, making her just the fourth woman to reach the semi-final’s during her debut in the past 50 years.

The others? All extremely successful players that went on to have pretty incredible careers.

Bianca #Andreescu is in some pretty elite company with her historic #USOpen debut 👀

Eight U.S. Open titles, 32 Grand Slam titles, and two-for-three in a career-high ranking of the best in the world. That isn’t just exclusive company, that is legendary company.

While we’ll have to see how the night plays out, there’s a good chance Bianca could find herself staring down Venus Williams’ sister Serena, who you wouldn’t exactly call a nobody either.
