A full day later, the hockey world is still processing what happened on Saturday night inside Scotiabank Arena.

David Ayres, the Toronto Marlies Zamboni driver and the emergency goalie on hand, was called upon to relieve the Hurricanes injury problems after James Reimer and Petr Mrazek were both injured against the Maple Leafs.

So, in came Ayres, faced with shutting down a team known purely for its offense.

After a shaky second period that saw him let in the first two shots he faced, Ayres did the unthinkable and accomplished one of the greatest feats in the history of sports: the 42-year-old amateur got the victory, as he was in net for the game-winning goal.

The hockey world couldn't believe it.

A day later, Ayres is feeling like a rockstar, doing a massive media tour that extends into Monday. Check out the itinerary.

You'll notice that one of the stops includes a skate at the Ford Performance Centre, where the Leafs and Marlies practice.

While it wasn't a mandatory team practice, Ayres was on the ice with a few Leafs players who he'd just beat the night before. Any awkward tension?

Look at how William Nylander's hug.

#DavidAyres was back at practice in Toronto on Sunday with some of the #MapleLeafs. 😬😂

It's not every day a Zamboni driver turned emergency goalie turned winning goalie gets to go on major American day-time shows and sports shows like Dan Le Batard, Golic & Wingo and CNN World Sport.

He even stopped by the TSN studios on Sunday and will be back for Trade Centre.

Come Sunday, he'll be down in Carolina as the Siren Sounder. Tuesday will also be known as 'DAVID AYRES DAY" in the city of Raleigh.

Now let's just hope they get him to drive the Zamboni, too.
