Unless you work or worked with the Toronto Marlies, you probably had no idea who David Ayres was when he stepped onto the ice as the Carolina Hurricanes’ emergency goalie on Saturday night.

By the end of the night, though, every Hurricanes fan and Toronto Maple Leafs fan knew the Zamboni driver’s name very well, as the 42-year-old turned away eight of the ten shots he faced for his first career NHL victory.

Even though Ayres is most likely never going to suit up for the Carolina Hurricanes ever again, the team is showing the man some love by selling his shersey on their website.

Ayres will receive royalties for the shirt and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a kidney foundation, a cause close to Ayres who received a kidney transplant 15 years ago.
