The move a lot of hockey fans were anticipating finally happened on Thursday afternoon as the Ottawa Senators sent Erik Karlsson, along with prospect Francis Perron, to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Chris Tierny, Dylan DeMelo, Josh Norris, Rudolfs Balcers, a 2019 or 2020 first round draft pick and a 2019 second round draft pick.

It was a move that was certainly tough for the Senators to make as they unloaded one of the greatest players in franchise history, and it seemed just as tough for Karlsson to take in considering he has called Ottawa home since he made his NHL debut during the 2009-10 season. Roughly 24 hours after the trade became official, Karlsson shared a message with both Sens fans and Sharks fans on Twitter.

Karlsson played in 627 over nine seasons with the Sens and scored 126 goals to go with 392 assists for 518 points in that span.
