After a bitter 41-33 loss in Super Bowl LII, it appears as though New England Patriot Rob Gronkowski is mulling retirement.

The tight end was asked about his future following the game and told reporters that he was going to “look at my future” and “sit down the next couple of weeks and see where I’m at.” ‘Gronk,’ as he’s more commonly known as, has suffered multiple injuries throughout his career to his back, forearm, knee, and head (to name a few), making his words a cause for concern for Patriots fans. The 28-year-old is popular enough off the field that he could choose to pursue a career outside of football and likely make a good living for himself. So what could possibly be in store for the Pro Bowler?

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the WWE will attempt to pursue Gronk with a deal similar to Ronda Rousey’s.

This comes at the same time that reports from wrestling indicate WWE is willing to offer a similar style deal to Gronkowski that they offered to Ronda Rousey. Given that would be far less than he would make in football, it’s hard to say, but he’s been hurt a lot in football and while wrestling full-time is very hard on the body as well, a part-time deal isn’t so bad.

Gronk has expressed his love for wrestling in the past when he served as a guest in WrestleMania 33. WWE star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, a former football player at the University of Miami himself, reportedly advised Gronk to retire in order to pursue a career in acting, so perhaps the two will either star in a movie together or meet in the ring in the not-so-distant future.

It’s very likely that Gronkowski will return for his ninth NFL season and attempt to capture a third Super Bowl, but this news shouldn’t be taken lightly by both Pats, and football fans worldwide. Losing the Amherst, New York native would quite simply be a huge loss for the NFL.
