Shayne Gostisbehere was selected 78th overall in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, but he didn’t establish himself as an everyday NHL starter until the 2015-16 season.
During his rookie campaign, Gostisbehere quickly became a fan favourite in Philadelphia and around the NHL thanks in part to his ability to help out on both ends of the ice. In 64 games, the Pembroke Pines, Florida native scored a whopping 17 goals and added 29 assists for 46 points, which included a record-setting 15-game point streak from January 29, 2015, to February 20, 2016.
Gostisbehere broke the initial point streak record for a rookie defenceman which was set by Barry Beck (11) back in 1977-78 on February 13, 2016, with a goal against the New Jersey Devils, and kept it going for four more games to set the new record for point streak by a rookie defenceman (15).
Earlier this year, the 2018 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records hit shelves and the latest version of the book features Gostisbehere’s streak from his rookie campaign.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a rookie or a veteran, a 15-game point streak at any level of your career is beyond impressive.
Gostisbehere followed up his outstanding rookie campaign with 7 goals and 32 assists in 76 games last season and currently has six goals and 19 assists for 25 points in 30 games this season.
