The Winnipeg Jets have been on quite the tear as of late and one of their latest victims was the Anaheim Ducks last Friday afternoon.

In the Jets’ 4-1 victory over the Ducks, defenceman Ben Chiarot and Ducks winger Corey Perry got into it down low near the Jets’ net after a save by Connor Hellebuyck and Perry ended up on the wrong side of a butt-end.

The 26-year-old defenceman didn’t receive a penalty on the play but he was fined $3,763.44 by the NHL, the maximum allowed under the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement, the following day.

Following the news of the fine, a Jets fan by the name of Kyle Klatt went ahead and started an online fundraiser through Go Fund Me to raise the funds for Chiarot’s fine, with all proceeds going towards the Christmas Cheer Board in Ben’s name.

Klatt started the Go Fund Me the day the fine was announced and Jets fans have already managed to hit and go well beyond the original goal of $3,764.

Winnipeg’s Christmas Cheer Board assists families and individuals who need help during the holiday season and it didn’t take Jets  fans very long to contribute to the campaign.

Through the first three days of its existence, the campaign has already raised $4,315, $551 more than the original goal.
