Joel Embiid is stepping up in a big way.
While the sports world continues to grapple with the global coronavirus pandemic, the Philadelphia 76ers star is donating $500,000 towards coronavirus relief as well as team employees who are facing salary reductions.
The 76ers, along with the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, are owned by the Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment group, which is instituting salary reductions of up to 20 percent for at-will employees making over $50,000; contracted employees have also been asked to volunteer for the same reduction.
Among those who have agreed to such a pay cut include Sixers GM Elton Brand and Devils president Jake Reynolds.
Obviously, these are hard times for everybody, and Embiid’s donation is a significant one that is definitely worth applauding.
