The city of Los Angeles was shaken after the tragic passing of Nipsey Hussle, a prominent rapper from the Crenshaw neighbourhood of south L.A. Many athletes, including Kawhi Leonard, DeMar DeRozan and others, were among those that paid tribute to Nipsey, who was well known for his community work in the city.

Nipsey was honoured by the Lakers as well as the Clippers with a tribute video after his passing in March, and he was known for his support of both Los Angeles teams. Now, another L.A. based rapper, The Game, is pushing for the Lakers to rock a Nipsey-inspired alternate jersey next season, sharing this original design by @shahinourian.

Nipsey was well-associated with his native Crenshaw neighbourhood, even using it as the title for one of his mixtapes. Are you into this design? How about in blue, from Twitter user Grant Goldberg?

While Nipsey doesnโ€™t have the global recognition of, say, Drake, his local ties ran deep as a positive leader in the community and it was clear that his passing has a profound effect on many people.

Weโ€™re not sure just how likely it is that the Lakers will actually dedicate a jersey after him, even a one-off, but it would definitely be a fitting way to remember a rapper that was so close with so many in the sports world.
