Even though they’re long gone, the Hartford Whalers still feature heavily in Connecticut’s hockey culture, to the point that Connecticut’s NWHL team branded itself under a similar name and colour set when founded in 2015.

The Connecticut Whale are going to take things a step further next season, too. The team unveiled a set of new uniforms for next season that definitely take after the Whalers’ classic green tarps. (You know we had to say tarps one time.)

These are beauties. We saw the real thing in live NHL action last season when the Carolina Hurricanes brought back the Whalers uniforms for select games, but that didn’t go over so well among original fans of the team who were still bitter about the Whalers’ relocation. Even the Governor of Connnecticut weighed in with displeasure.

With that in mind, it will certainly be nice to see these Whalers-inspired greens on the ice representing a Connecticut-based team next season — even if there’s nothing quite like the originals.
