Alex Ovechkin generally seems like a pretty good sport that is very easy to get along with. Honestly, so does his former coach Barry Trotz. Despite parting ways after their epic Stanley Cup victory last year, it was surprising to hear Ovi’s reaction to a question about his former bench boss.

When asked if he was happy for Trotz, who left the Capitals organization to coach the Islanders in New York, Ovi was pretty blunt. The Trotz led Isles have blown expectations out of the water after the shocking departure of former franchise player John Tavares.

With a chip on their shoulder, the Isles are now competing in the second round of the NHL Playoffs. Does Ovi care?

Nope, not at all. When you’re out of the family, you’re out of the family.

He wasn’t the only one either.

Maybe ask them a little later on, when they aren’t still fresh off the heartbreaking Game 7 loss while trying to defend a Stanley Cup Championship for the first time in franchise history.
