As the days wind down toward opening day in the NHL, the interest in restricted free agent William Nylander is seemingly growing,

The 22-year-old has made it clear that he’s seeking a long-term contract, but Kyle Dubas has yet to grant the young forward his wish. An Eastern Conference team is seeing the stand-off in Toronto as an opportunity to inquire about the youngster and bolster what is already a young roster. According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, The Carolina Hurricanes reached out to the Maple Leafs about striking a deal for the talented young Swede. However, the Leafs were reportedly quick to turn down any interest.

It doesn't look like #Leafs RFA William Nylander is heading anywhere 👀

It’s more than likely that other teams have also approached the Buds about their forward, but not many have publicly been revealed.

Despite the ruckus, general manager Kyle Dubas confirmed that he does not intend to trade Nylander anywhere. But when you consider the team already has Tavares on tap for the next seven years at $11 million annually AND need to dish Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews new contracts as well, things could get a little shaky in TO.

Time will tell what colours Nylander will be rocking in the 2018-19 season.
