Chandler Stephenson racked up two goals and five assists during his 24 playoff games on the fourth line of the Washington Capitals, but his most meaningful contribution is yet to come.

Stephenson, a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, has decided that his day with the Stanley Cup won’t be used to centerpiece and family dinner or gloat to all his friends. Instead the forward will bring the Cup to Humboldt, Saskatchewan, as part of the healing efforts following a devastating bus crash that took the lives of many of the Humboldt Broncos SJHL team.

Following the Game 5 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights, Stephenson explained that he was going to be bring Lord Stanley to the recovering community.

“They deserve this”, Stephenson said, “I knew a couple of the guys on the bus.” He goes on to say “That’s obviously something that I’ve been wanting to do and something that’s special and closet to home for me. Yeah, it’s something that I’m looking forward to.”

While the bus crash rocked the hockey world in an irreversibly devastating way, the silver lining is the rallying that has come as a result. All across Canada and the US there were fundraisers, tributes, and offers of help to the Humboldt community. It also included the second largest GoFundMe campaign of all time.
