There were some last-second acquisitions made around the NHL on the eve of the start of the regular season as some of the teams claimed players off waivers. One of the players who didn’t make it through the waiver process untouched was Remi Elie, who was claimed by the Buffalo Sabres from the Dallas Stars.

Elie, the 40th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, spent most of his time with the organization with the Texas Stars in the AHL, but got his big break last season as he appeared in 72 games. While he only ended up playing 90 games with the NHL club, the 23-year-old got a warm sendoff from his now-former teammates as they stopped practice just to say their goodbyes.

Changing teams is just part of the business of being a professional athlete, but players don’t always get a chance to give one another a proper good-bye when something like this happens.

The Cornwall, Ontario native tallied seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points in 90 career NHL games, and totaled 16 goals and 30 assists for 46 points in 121 AHL games with the Texas Stars.
