As proud, hockey loving, maple syrup guzzling, flannel wearing Canadians, we’ll be the first ones to admit it.
We honestly don’t really know what Canadian food is.
Apparently, though, this little Montreal Deli in Northern California does, and they’ve become somewhat of a safe haven for Raptors fans who are venturing across enemy lines.
Augie’s Montreal Deli is “the only authentic purveyor of Authentic Montreal Smoke Meat in Northern Cali”, and they offer not only Montreal smoked meat, but also poutine.
Pretty Canadien, eh?
To add to the Canadian-ness of the joint, Augie’s is ‘THE East Bay’s top hockey spot', and hosted watch parties for every game the San Jose Sharks partook in this postseason, where they offered all you can eat sandwiches and poutine, as well as $5.00 beers.
Very Canadian.
Now, with their local Golden State Warriors tipping off against the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals, Augie’s is fully behind the Raps. They're hosting watch parties where fans can enjoy $4.00 beers on tap, including Molson Canadian.
“There’s something about what the Raptors are doing for Canada, they’re Canada’s team and it’s really special,” owner Lex Gopnik-Lewiniski told KPIX SF Bay Area's Don Ford, “It’s interesting when we have these watch parties here. We have Warriors fans in the house. Cause again, we’re Canadians. We’re very polite, welcoming people, like people in the Bay Area, and it’s not like we’re playing the Celtics or the Lakers.”
