May has been a good month to surprise young NHL players at airports.

It all started when Connor McDavid was greeted by some fans at the Edmonton International Airport during the Oilers’ series with the San Jose Sharks.

Earlier this week, Mitch Marner became the next NHL youngster to become a victim of an awkward airport photo.

As expected, the Internet had a blast with this photo.

Marner had a successful rookie campaign with the Toronto Maple Leafs and built a good connection with Auston Matthews. They became so close during the season they’re practically brothers, and Matthews got in on the Marner meme fun by updating his Twitter picture.

This might be a little confusing for new fans of the game trying to figure out who is who on Twitter, but this is a joke that Matthews will probably roll with until next season.

Even Marner couldn’t hold back from the fun and decided to make an update to his Twitter page as well.

It’s nice to see the professional players have as much fun as the fans when it comes to things like this. As random as this is, moves like this will more than likely only increase their popularity throughout the league.
