Jonas Hiller joined the Anaheim Ducks as an undrafted free agent in May 2007 and he went on to play nine NHL seasons; seven with the Ducks and two with the Calgary Flames. After posting career-lows across the board during the 2015-16 season with the Flames, Hiller ended up returning home to Switzerland where he currently plays as a member of EHC Biel in the National League.
The 36-year-old’s club is currently going head-to-head against HC Davos in the opening round of the playoffs. After losing the opening two games of the series EHC Biel bounced back nicely over the next two games to even the series at two games apiece. However, HC Davos nearly made a late comeback late in the third period of Game 4 after Hiller put his acting skills on display in hopes of drawing a penalty.
After feeling the contact on his mask, Hiller decided to drop to the ice like a sack of potatoes but the referee wasn’t buying any of his acting for one second. Noticing Hiller was out of position and trying really hard to get a penalty call, former Montreal Canadiens prospect Magnus Nygren sent the puck on net and ended up beating Hiller to make it a one-goal game.
Luckily for Hiller his poor acting didn’t cost his team in the end as they went on to win the game 5-3.
