Jeff Skinner’s name has floated around in different trade rumours for a couple of seasons now and the Carolina Hurricanes finally pulled the trigger on a deal on Thursday evening as they dealt the 26-year-old to the Buffalo Sabres.

Considering Skinner’s name has been involved in different trade talks over the years it wasn’t the fact that he got traded that shocked the hockey community, it was the fact that he got shipped to the Sabres of all teams. Another thing that hockey fans couldn’t believe is how little the Sabres had to give up in order to land the three-time 30-plus goal scorer.

Hurricanes fans have every right to be upset about the trade considering he’s scored 20 or more goals in six of his eight NHL seasons, has hit 50 or more points four times, and has finished with 63 points twice in his career. However, Sabres fans are pretty pumped up right now about the recent acquisition.

Cliff Pu was drafted 69th overall in the third round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres but doesn’t have any NHL experience under his belt yet. The 20-year-old split time between the London Knights and the Kingston Frontenacs in his final OHL season last year, and finished with 80 goals, 130 assists and 210 points in 232 games.
