Shane Doan will earn another place in Arizona Coyotes franchise history on Sunday night as his No. 19 will become the first jersey in franchise history to make its way to the rafters. Since Doan started his NHL career when the Coyotes were still known as the Winnipeg Jets, it only made sense to have the Coyotes host the Jets on his special night.

Usually it’s just the home team who shows love to the player having his jersey number retired, but since Doan once wore a Jets jersey during his career both teams decided to honour him on his special night by hitting the ice in Doan No. 19 jerseys.

It’s a special night for Doan, the Coyotes franchise and the city of Arizona, and there was a lot of love shown for Doan before, during and after the official ceremony.

Doan made the move to Phoenix with the Jets in 1996 and he never looked back as he chose to resign with the Coyotes every time his deal expired and never asked for a move out of town during the toughest years.
