Shane Doan saw just about everything during his time with the Arizona Coyotes. The Halkirk, Alberta native was drafted by the franchise when they were still the Winnipeg Jets, he made the move with them when they became the Phoenix Coyotes, and helped fight to keep the team in Arizona when times were at their lowest.

As a result of his loyalty to the club, young people who grew up watching the team play wanted to be just like Doan in one way or another. On Sunday, the Coyotes will retire Doan’s No. 19 and he got shoutouts from players around the league, including Arizona’s own Auston Matthews.

Doan spent 20 of his 21 seasons in Arizona/Phoenix and was admired around the league for his loyalty to the franchise year after year. Although he didn’t bring a Stanley Cup to Arizona, he certainly played a large role in growing the game of hockey in the area and Auston Matthews is proof of that.
